Tuhansia open access -lehtiä Nellin lehtilistoille / Thousands of new Open access journals to Nelli journal lists

Nellin lehtilistoille on marras-joulukuun aikana lisätty tuhansia uusia open access -kausijulkaisuja eli vapaasti ilman tilausmaksua luettavissa olevia nimekkeitä. Edustettuna ovat kaikki tieteenalat ja maanosat, pienet ja suuret kielialueet. Monella taholla on käynnissä historiallisten sanoma- ja aikakauslehtien digitointiprojekteja samaan tapaan kuin omassa Kansalliskirjastossamme, mutta tarjolle tulee myös tuoreita tieteellisten lehtien vuosikertoja

Seuraavassa muutamia poimintoja Nellin open access -lehtipaketeista, joukossa sekä äskettäin Nelliin lisättyjä että siellä ennestään olleita. Paketteihin sisältyvät lehdet saat esille menemällä Nellissä välilehdelle Elektroniset lehdet > Haku, valitsemalla listalta kustantajan ja klikkaamalla HAE-painiketta.

During November and December thousands of new Open access (OA) periodicals have been added to Nelli’s journal lists. Open access means that the titles can be read freely without subscription. There are titles available from all the disciplines and continents from small and big language areas. In many countries the historical newspapers and magazines are being digitized in the same way as the Finnish historical newspapers are being digitized by the National Library. In addition, recent volumes of several scientific journals are available.

Below are some examples of Nelli’s OA journal packages, including some recently added packages as well as ones that have already been available previously. You can read the journals included in the packages in Nelli portal by choosing Find e-journal > Locate, then selecting a vendor from the list and clicking the GO-button.

Ebraryn e-kirjat ladattavissa / Ebrary’s e-books are downloadable

Ebrary-webkirjaston e-kirjat on nyt ladattavissa työasemille ja lukulaitteille. Avatun kirjan toimintopalkissa on Download-painike, jolla useimmat kirjat voi ladata kokonaisuudessaan 14 vuorokaudeksi Adobe Digital Editions  –lukuohjelmalla. Lataaminen edellyttää maksuttoman henkilökohtaisen käyttäjätilin avaamista Ebrary-palveluun ja sisäänkirjautumista kyseiselle käyttäjätilille. Yhdellä käyttäjällä voi olla ladattuna maksimissaan 10 kirjaa kerrallaan. Lisäksi kirjoista voi ladata yksittäisiä lukuja tai tekstipätkiä (max 40 sivua) pdf-muodossa.

Adobe Digital Editions -lukuohjelma on yliopiston verkossa käytössä kaikilla työasemilla. Kotikoneille ohjelma on maksutta ladattavissa Adoben sivuilta. Ensimmäistä kertaa ohjelmaa avattaessa se kysyy tietokoneen auktorisointia (Authorize Computer). Auktorisointi ei ole välttämätön edellytys kirjojen lukemiselle Adobe Digital Editions -lukuohjelmalla.

Now you can download Ebrary’s e-books on workstations and e-readers. If there is a download-button in the tool bar of the e-book that you have opened, then you can download most of the e-books in their entirety for up to 14 days with the Adobe Digital Editions reader software. In order to be able to download an e-book you will need to open a free personal user account in the Ebrary service and to log in to that account.  One user can download the maximum of 10 books at a time. In addition, you can download single chapters or sections (max. 40 pages) in PDF form.

Adobe Digital Editions reader software is available on all the workstations in the university’s network. To home computers, you can download the programme for free from the Adobe’s web page. When you open the programme for the first time it asks for the computer’s authorisation (Authorize Computer). However, you will be able to read the e-books with the Adobe Digital Editions reader software even without the authorisation.

Kotimaisia lehtiä Nellin e-lehtilistoille / Finnish titles to Nelli's e-journal lists

Nellin e-lehtilistojen iso puute on ollut se, etteivät kotimaiset tieteelliset lehdet ole olleet siellä kattavasti näkyvillä. Nyt asiaan tuli merkittävä korjaus, kun Elektra-palvelun lehdet saatiin ladattua listoille. Mukana on viitisenkymmentä kausijulkaisunimekettä Aikuiskasvatuksesta Virittäjään: ks. Nelli -> Elektroniset lehdet -> Haku -> Kustantaja: Elektra

Käyttöoikeus Elektran lehtiin meillä on toki ollut ennen tätäkin, mutta aiemmin Nellissä oli linkki vain palvelun pääsivulle. Linkkejä Elektra-lehtien yksittäisiin artikkeleihin löytyy mm. kotimaisesta Arto-artikkeliviitetietokannasta.

Muita Nellin Elektroniset lehdet -listalta löytyviä suomalaisia aineistoja ovat Kansalliskirjaston digitoimat historialliset sanomalehdet, PressDisplay-palvelun sanomalehdet sekä eräät Elektran ulkopuoliset tieteelliset tai ammattilehdet (esim. Liiketaloudellinen aikakauskirja, Suomen Lääkärilehti).

A shortcoming of the Nelli e-journal lists has been that the Finnish scientific journals have not been extensively available. Now there has been a major improvement in the matter when the journals in the Elektra-service have been downloaded to the lists. There are about fifty periodical titles from Agricultural and Food Science to Virittäjä: see Nelli ->Find E-journal -> Locate -> Vendor: Elektra.

We have had the access to the Elektra journals before but previously in the Nelli portal there was only a link to the service’s main page. Links to single articles in the Elektra journals can be found, for example, from the Arto reference database of Finnish articles.

Other Finnish material on the Nelli e-journal lists are historical newspapers digitized by the National Library, newspapers in the PressDisplay-service and some scientific and trade journals outside Elektra, for example, The Finnish Journal of Business Economics and Suomen Lääkärilehti (Finnish Medical Journal).

JBI Connect (Joanna Briggs Institute, Clinical Online Network of Evidence for Care and Therapeutics) -tietokannan pdf-tiedostojen aukeamisessa on ongelmia. JBI:n tiedotteen mukaan asiaa selvitetään parhaillaan.

Faculty of 1000 koekäytössä / on trial

Faculty of 1000 on koekäytössä Itä-Suomen yliopistossa 14.11.2011 saakka. Kyseessä on mm. uutuusseurantaan tarkoitettu uuden sukupolven työkalu, jossa analysoidaan systemaattisesti uusia biotieteiden ja lääketieteen tutkimusartikkeleita. Arvioinnin tekee alojensa tunnetut asiantuntijat. Jokaisesta artikkelista on kirjoitettu lyhyt arvio, joten palvelun avulla voi vaivattomasti pysytellä ajan tasalla omalla tiedealueellaan.
